Special Issue - collaboration between artMAP project and Heritage journal

This Special Issue invites original research articles and reviews focused on the characterization of the art materials and the degradation processes in historical wall paintings. We seek to collect a diverse set of papers focused on the use of state-of-the-art analytical methods, including portable non- and micro-invasive analytical techniques, as well as on the use of innovative methodologies, for the investigation of a diverse set of wall paintings coming from various spaces and cultures. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, stratigraphic characterization of polychrome surfaces, chemical imaging and mapping of pigments and binders, qualitative and quantitative characterization of organic colorants and pigment mixtures, analysis of trace elements and impurities in mineral pigments.

Deadline for manuscript submissions: 31 January 2025.

Awards & distinctions

Gold Medal for the artMAP project at the European Exhibition of Creativity and Innovation (EUROINVENT), which took place in Iași between the 11-13 May 2023.

The artMAP project was awarded Silver Medal within the 8th edition of the International Exhibition of Inventions and Innovations “TRAIAN VUIA”, which took place in Timișoara between the 8-10 October 2022.

Project featured within the Heritage Research Hub

The artMAP project is featured within the Heritage Research Hub under Heritage Projects. The Heritage Research Hub is a platform on and for the cultural heritage research community. It has been created in 2010 based on an instrument launched by the European Commission and it is managed by the Joint Programming Initiative on Cultural Heritage (JPI CH).
